Business Unusual Accelerator: Meet the Team

Our Business Unusual Accelerator Team are taking the priorities that came out of Citizens’ Studio and shaping them into a prototype enterprise.

This is the third strand of our Theory of Change, and how we tangibly contribute to a more inclusive and ecological economy in Cambridge. Today, we're excited to introduce you to Ellen Jones.

Tell us about yourself and the skills that you’re bringing the the team.

Hi, I am Jenny. I'm looking forward to exploring Business Unusual and contributing to a more sustainable and care-focused ecology in Cambridge and beyond.

My background is in marketing, mostly for international professional services firms, but also within creative agencies. One of my strengths is in crafting complex ideas and messages into clear, authentic stories that resonate with their intended audiences.

I also have some entrepreneurial skills to throw into the ring - in 2011, I won a local Dragon's Den competition to set up my own small business. Nowadays, I am a social sciences researcher with a particular interest in the intersection of creativity, the arts, media, and political psychology.

I've lived in Cambridge for 30 years and have contacts in the local business community and Anglia Ruskin University that I suspect would have good synergy with the Together Culture network.

What made you want to join the Business Unusual Accelerator team this year?

When I heard about Together Culture's launch and its focus on care, creativity and doing business differently, my interest was piqued. I've worked in organisations where people have come second to profit, and systemic inequities were rife. I signed up to join the Business Unusual Accelerator Team because I believe there is a societal need to co-create different, more human-centric business models.

The first Business Unusual Accelerator meeting, which kicked off in July.

What excites you about what emerged from the 2025 Citizens' Studio?

The most exciting aspect of the 2025 Citizens' Studio priorities to me, is the importance placed on 'meaningful work'. When you feel your work doesn't matter, it is easy to believe that you don't matter.

Finding ways to support Together Culture members and other local citizens so they can develop the skills and networks to gain enjoyable, fulfilling and well-paid work is a truly exciting opportunity. I'm also looking forward to earning and spending TOGs in the Share Bank.

And of course developing the Business Unusual business model with the multi-talented Accelerator team.

What is your hope for what emerges from this year's Accelerator, and what do you think the impact will be?

I hope that the co-creation of the Accelerator business model supports other local businesses to adopt more equitable, eco-friendly, and care-led business practices. I also see the Accelerator team as a great way to bring members together to develop our entrepreneurial skills and enhance our agency as storytellers and ambassadors for Together Culture. As such, we can lead in the regeneration of the Kite area and beyond, creating successful and sustainable economies.

If you’re interested in learning more about Together Culture and our theory of change, join us for an Orientation session. Book your place here.
